THE DELICIOUS HISTORY OF FOOD
CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATION

I had the pleasure of illustrating The Delicious History of Food, a richly illustrated non-fiction children’s book written by Clive Gifford and published by Fraklin Watts UK. This was my fourth collaboration with Clive, and it took me on a vibrant journey through the flavors, cultures, and curious stories that shaped the way we eat today.

From ancient banquets to food in space, and from happy accidents like the invention of chocolate chip cookies to the evolution of everyday staples like bread and cheese, the book explores the surprising history behind what’s on our plates.

My illustrations brought to life bustling markets, royal feasts, culinary inventions, and quirky food facts—each spread designed to spark curiosity and delight young readers. Under the art direction of Victoria Brooker, I aimed to blend historical detail with visual storytelling, creating scenes that are as informative as they are fun.

This project reflects my love for narrative illustration, historical research, and playful visual worlds and it celebrates one of the things I enjoy most as an illustrator: the chance to explore wildly different subjects through art.
