THE DELICIOUS HISTORY OF FOOD
CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATION
CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATION
I illustrated The Delicious History of Food, a richly detailed non-fiction children’s book written by Clive Gifford and published by Franklin Watts UK. This was my fourth collaboration with Clive, taking me on a vibrant journey through the flavors, cultures, and stories that have shaped the way we eat today.
From ancient banquets to meals in space, and from happy accidents like the invention of chocolate chip cookies to the evolution of everyday staples such as bread and cheese, the book uncovers the surprising history behind what’s on our plates.
My illustrations bring to life bustling markets, royal feasts, culinary inventions, and quirky food facts — each spread designed to spark curiosity and delight young readers. Under the art direction of Victoria Brooker, I blended historical detail with playful visual storytelling, creating scenes that are both educational and engaging.
This project reflects my passion for narrative illustration, historical research, and building visual worlds that invite readers to explore wildly different subjects through art.
